Cristal Rivera’s Abstract: I will share my experience of the RStudio Scholarship workshop led by Alison Hill: “Introducing Yourself Online” using Hugo, blogdown, and distill. I will also share my journey in creating my own personal website and show some examples of how to customize it to make it unique.

Bio: Cristal is an Industrial Production Engineer from Costa Rica, working in advanced analytics for Thermo Fisher Scientific. Her journey in R began two years ago, doing data analysis, modeling and applications with shiny. Cristal’s background is in urban logistics researching, supply chain, and business intelligence analysis, and is an active member of volunteer communities in Costa Rica to learn and teach data science in an inclusive, accessible, and inspiring way to be able to be a promoter community in the area hand in hand with volunteering educational.

Maria Kamenetsky’s Abstract: Many learners are often intimidated by entering a statistics or programming course and may even ask for what topics they can review in advance. While recommending textbooks is helpful, learners limited in time may not be able to review that much material. In this talk, I will briefly present the learnr package and how it can be used as a self-assessment tool to help learners efficiently review course material.

Bio: Maria is a PhD candidate in Epidemiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research focus is in spatial epidemiology, specifically developing statistical methods for spatial and spatio-temporal cluster detection and estimation. She completed her MS in Statistics at UW-Madison, where she also works as a Project Assistant (Statistical Consultant) with the CALS Statistical Consulting Lab.
